Although much of society believes that the magic of yoga lies in the gift of flexibility one experiences, the practice is so much beyond the physical asanas.
It is a core belief of mine that flexibility in your body, results in flexibility of your mind. A committed practice can lead to a more calm and centered approach on how you choose to navigate through life. Yes, the gift of flexibility is marvellous, yet the magic of the practice lays in the union back to your true self. Utilizing tools such as conscious, mindful breathing in a harmonious dance with connected movement, and in conjunction with it’s philosophy and Ayurvedic roots, Yoga allows for a deeper exploration into your mind, heart centre, and soul. Allowing for you to live a more balanced, fulfilled, healthy lifestyle.
As a young child, I always believed there to be a bigger meaning behind all that was and all that is. I was on the constant search for answers from within myself, mentors, books, and outside sources. I began meditating at the age of 12 as a tool to help me navigate being a teenager in the western world. I used to go on barefoot walks between study blocks to connect with nature. I needed that grounding, it helped me feel secure. As I grew older, I started to hear more about the benefits of yoga. I had the dream of getting into the splits, so I decided to give it a shot. At the time, I could not even touch my toes, and hated the practice. I wondered to myself, “this hurts so much, why do people love it?” Determined to push my way through the discomfort, that’s where I learnt the power of the practice. The practice is not meant to be easy and painless, it is meant to equip you with the mental and physical flexibility and fortitude to move through the discomforts of life from a balanced space. From then on, my love and passion for yoga has only grown.
In 2022, after 5 years of my personal practice, I decided I was ready to share this healing wisdom with others, and registered for my 250hr Yoga Teacher Training at a renowned studio in the heart of Venice beach by the name of Shefayoga Venice, and have been teaching since. It brings me the utmost joy to help others cultivate tools that will help regulate their bodies, minds, and nervous systems towards living a happier, more fulfilled life. My approach is to bring my students’ awareness to all the sensations that are present in their body, while supporting them in acquiring the strength, and philosophical knowledge from the yoga practice necessary for a safe journey back to the self.
